Tribhuvan University International
Cricket Ground, also known as Kirtipur Stadium, is situated in Kirtipur near Kathmandu,
Nepal. It is the home ground for the Nepal national cricket team.
The stadium has a crowd capacity of 20,000. The two ends in this stadium are Pavilion
End and Chobhar End.
Cricket, the sport that has re-conquered thousands of Nepalese all around the world, was first of all introduced to Nepal by the ruling Rana Dynasty when they returned from studies in England and India in 1920s though the game was kept very much within them. They started some developmental program; the establishment of Cricket Association of Nepal in 1946 to promote the cricket amongst the aristocracy was one of them.
In 1961 a significant effort was made
to promote the game in whole nation, the Cricket association became a part of National
sport council though it was limited only in Kathmandu valley.
It has been 23 years since Nepal played their first international match and during these
years they have been showing the cricketing world what they are capable off. Also
National women cricket team after making their debut in 2007 is making a statement in
international level.
On 15 March 2018, Nepal gained One Day International (ODI) status for the first time
(and regained Twenty20 International status), after winning the first playoff match in
the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Nepal made their maiden appearance in the ICC
global event at the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
